Dr. Jasser Auda is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Center of Islamic Legislation and Ethics, Qatar Foundation. He is a founding member and member of the Executive Board of the International Union of Muslim Scholars; former founding director of the Maqasid Research Center in the Philosophy of Islamic law in London; fellow of the International Institute of Advanced Systems Research in Canada; member of the UK Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism, and a visiting lecturer to universities and institutes in Egypt, Canada, USA, UK, Malaysia, and India. He has a PhD from the University of Wales, UK, in the philosophy of Islamic law, a PhD from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in systems analysis, in addition to early traditional studies in the Quran and Islamic sciences in Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo. He has lectured on Islamic law, and its relation to ethics and policy, in dozens of countries around the world, and has written a number of books. His latest books this year in Arabic and English, respectively, are: Maqasid Al-Shariah as Philosophy of Islamic Law: A Systems Approach, London/Beirut: IIIT, and Between Shariah and Politics: Questions in the Post-Revolutions Era, Beirut/Cairo: Al-Shabakah Al-Arabiyyah.
