The Marquis de la Tour-Samuel, aged eighty-two, remembers a strange story, there occurred fifty six, and fear that since obsessed. In 1827,
stationed at Rouen, he met a friend he had not seen for five years. The latter appears to have taken fifty years: his hair is white and walks bent. He asks her, under the seal of secrecy, to go to the castle to take important papers in his desk.
