Her dad always talks about tearing down the old barn, which is nearly falling apart, so Abby takes what could be her last chance to explore it, and she discovers an amazing treasure: dozens of old photographs and antiques, as well as the diary of a young girl named Rebecca, who lived in 1910. As she reads the diary, Abby learns more about what life was like back then, and she begins to think of Rebecca as a friend. Even though the two girls are separated by time, Rebecca is there for Abby when she needs her, and just maybe, Abby can be there for Rebecca , too.
